Navigator Alexia Barrier, originally from Biot, is set to compete in the Route du Rhum 2026, starting on November 1st. She will be the first woman to race in the premier Ultim category.

Having recently completed the Jules Verne Trophy with an all-female crew in a record time of 57 days, 21 hours, and 20 minutes, navigator Alexia Barrier is embarking on a new adventure: the Route du Rhum 2026. The start of this transatlantic race is scheduled for Sunday, November 1st, at 1:02 PM off the coast of Saint-Malo, with the goal of reaching Pointe-à-Pitre.
Among the 118 registered skippers, many eyes will be on the IDEC boat and its navigator, Alexia Barrier. She will make history as the first woman to compete in the Ultim category, known as the 'Formula 1s of the sea'.
“

"I have already participated in this race in 2018. Today, I arrive at this race with enormous ambition but also with great humility. I know the power of an Ultim, what it demands in anticipation, control, and trust. I am fortunate to be able to helm a legendary boat that has already won this race and set world records with Francis Joyon and Loïck Peyron. It is a great honor and pride to succeed them."

This participation is part of a broader project, The Famous Project, which aims to push the boundaries of offshore racing performance. The project also has a societal dimension, driven by her association 4myplanet, which connects scientists and children. 'More than a million people follow me from all over the world,' she enthuses.
