Following the assault at Aubagne's Lakanal college on October 12th, the town and its residents gathered to express their support and concern.

On Monday morning, October 12th, a 3rd-grade student entered the Lakanal college armed and seriously injured the headmaster and a teacher. Educational teams reacted with exemplary composure to immediately secure all children. The shooter was apprehended by the school's CPE. An emergency medical-psychological unit was deployed to support students, families, and staff.
Mayor Jean-Pierre Squillari, present at the scene, praised the remarkable courage of security forces and educational staff. "The shock and pain that run through our territory affect us all, as residents of Aubagne, as parents. Many of us interact daily with these adolescents, their families, and the educational community. Aubagne does not and will never accept such violence infiltrating the school of the Republic. More than ever, we form one community of work, values, and destiny," he stated.
In the afternoon, the Minister of National Education, Édouard Geffray, accompanied by Ministers Laurent Nuñez (Interior) and Sabrina Agresti-Roubache (Vocational Training), reacted to the tragedy. He highlighted Collège Lakanal's remarkable prevention policies and the exceptional responsiveness of its staff in neutralizing the student and aiding their pupils, even when their own children were at the school.
The following day, Tuesday, October 13th, residents, parents, and teachers gathered on Cours Foch. They expressed their emotion and indignation, while reaffirming the collective demand for a serene and secure learning and working environment.
