A targeted operation to control tiger mosquitoes recently took place in a sector of Bouc-Bel-Air, conducted by the Regional Health Agency (ARS). In response to erroneous information circulating on social media, the municipality wished to provide details on how these interventions are carried out.
The ARS intervention is triggered when a person is infected with diseases such as dengue, chikungunya, or Zika. If a risk of virus transmission by the tiger mosquito (Aedes albopictus) is identified, even to a limited extent, the ARS commissions its operator, EID Méditerranée. The objective is to reduce the risk of viral spread and prevent new cases.
These operations are strictly localized, generally affecting only a small perimeter of a few homes. Residents directly involved and sometimes neighbors of the affected individual are informed of the operation's details. Therefore, there is no need to alert the entire municipal population, as they are neither concerned nor exposed. This is a localized operation carried out by authorized professionals, not an aerial spraying. The identity of the infected person is protected by medical confidentiality.
