The Souleiado residence in Arles has seen its 163 social housing units transformed after nearly two years of work and an investment of 8 million euros.

The once dull and dilapidated facades of these 1960s buildings have been replaced with bright white and yellow colors. Common areas have benefited from landscaping and new plantings, while the apartments have been completely redeveloped. "It's a metamorphosis," rejoiced the mayor of Arles, Patrick de Carolis, at this morning's inauguration. The municipality had encouraged this rehabilitation, carried out by the housing provider Erilia using its own funds.
The mayor emphasized that enabling citizens to live in decent, comfortable, and adapted housing is a core ambition. He also highlighted other ongoing projects, including the 40 million euros currently invested by housing provider Vilogia in Griffeuille and the urban renewal of Barriol, representing 140 million euros. In light of the climate emergency, this renovation also aims to improve thermal comfort in both winter and summer through better insulation.
The work, which began at the end of 2023, has not only renewed the architectural appearance of the residence but also improved its energy performance, moving from energy label D to C. The insulation of facades and flat roofs helps to better withstand winter cold and summer heat, leading to lower energy bills. Inside the apartments, sanitary facilities have been replaced, loggias have been enclosed for increased space and comfort, and entrance halls have been modernized with access control for enhanced security and accessibility. Outdoor areas have also been equipped with entrance gates, and parking in front of the residence has been redone, thereby bringing "sunshine to the heart" of the neighborhood's residents.
