The city of Fréjus is launching the reconstruction of the Rue de la Vernède bridge, a project set to run from October 26, 2026, to February 26, 2027, involving diversions and utility relocation.

Since 2021, the municipality of Fréjus has been systematically cataloging its engineering structures. This initiative has identified 86 structures, including bridges, footbridges, retaining walls, and culverts, to ensure their maintenance and safety.
Following an assessment in February 2025 of the bridge on Rue de la Vernède, provisional measures were implemented. The weight limit was reduced to 3.5 tons, down from the previous 10 tons. Temporary reinforcement was carried out in July 2025 to extend the structure's service life, which required a one-month closure and allowed for further studies for its reconstruction.
Preparatory work conducted by GRDF in June-July and then September-October 2026 has now concluded. These interventions have paved the way for the demolition of the existing structure and the construction of the new bridge.
The construction project will be executed in two distinct phases. The first, from October 26 to November 6, 2026, will focus on rerouting utilities for Orange and Veolia, managed by Estérel Côte d'Azur Agglomération. The second phase, commencing November 9, 2026, and concluding on February 26, 2027, will involve the complete demolition of the current bridge and the integration of new utility networks.
Throughout the construction period, Rue de la Vernède will be closed to traffic between numbers 1803 and 1655. Traffic will be primarily diverted via the RDN7. The city thanks residents and users in advance for their understanding regarding the inconvenience caused.
