The Prefect of Vaucluse has decided to reclassify the commune of Caumont-sur-Durance to the 'ALERT' drought level, a less stringent measure than the previous 'ENHANCED ALERT' level. These new provisions, effective from September 24, 2026, modify water usage rules until October 31, 2026, when the situation will be reassessed.
The main changes concern the watering of green spaces and vegetable gardens, now permitted only before 9 AM and after 7 PM. Filling and emptying private swimming pools over 1 m³ are prohibited, except for regulatory exceptions. Washing vehicles at home, as well as cleaning facades, roofs, sidewalks, and terraces, are also forbidden, unless for sanitary or safety reasons.
Open-circuit fountains must be stopped if technically feasible. It is reminded that collected rainwater can continue to be used for watering, an exception that does not apply to other water sources.
The prefecture calls for vigilance and the adoption of water-saving practices to preserve water resources, emphasizing that these measures may evolve depending on the hydrological situation.
