In November, the Communauté de communes des Sorgues du Comtat (CoVe) is hosting a mobile pool in Saint-Pierre-de-Vassols to teach swimming to students from intercommunal schools and offer sessions to the public, a first in Vaucluse.

To address the challenge of distant aquatic facilities, the CoVe is implementing an innovative system in partnership with the association Aqwa Itinéris: a mobile pool installed in a specially adapted truck. This aquatic center, already deployed in other areas of the Sud region, is arriving in Vaucluse for the first time. Its 8-meter long, 2.10-meter wide pool features a modular floor, allowing depths from 20 cm to 1.20 meters, designed to facilitate water familiarization, swimming instruction, and the acquisition of safety reflexes.
Throughout November, students from the CoVe's two intercommunal schools will participate in eight swimming sessions, twice a week. Supervised by qualified lifeguards, these sessions aim to familiarize children with the aquatic environment and help them acquire essential water safety skills. This initiative will benefit children from six villages in the area.
Time slots will also be open to the public on Wednesdays, Saturdays, and in the late afternoon. These free sessions, led by lifeguards, will offer various activities such as baby swimming, anti-drowning safety, and aquaphobia support. Registration is for a cycle of four weekly sessions.
This initiative is part of a drowning prevention effort led by the CoVe. Sandrine Raymond, Vice-President of the CoVe for solidarity actions and Mayor of Saint-Pierre-de-Vassols, emphasizes the importance of facilitating access to swimming lessons. This temporary mobile pool complements awareness campaigns conducted by the CoVe and the association La Magie de l'Eau, aiming to empower as many people as possible to approach water with confidence and better prevent risks.
