From October 3 to 18, the Living Soil Festival takes place throughout France to promote ecological practices such as composting and mulching, essential for soil preservation.

Organized by the Réseau Compost Citoyen (Citizen Compost Network), this national event aims to educate the public on managing green waste and preserving living soils.
A living soil is rich in biodiversity, hosting earthworms, fungi, and microorganisms. It improves water retention, stores carbon, and increases fertility, thus contributing to the fight against climate change.
On-site management of green waste through composting and mulching offers an ecological and economic alternative to burning, which is prohibited in France, and to disposal at recycling centers. These simple actions reduce waste transport, enrich soils, and conserve water.
In the Sisteronais-Buëch region, the Communauté de communes (CCSB) is offering several free activities from October 3 to 18. The program includes: awareness stands at the markets of Serres, Sisteron, and Laragne; compost and mulch donations at three local recycling centers (Lazer, Ribiers, and Serres); composting workshops; and educational interventions in schools.
The CCSB reaffirms its commitment to a more sustainable territory, encouraging everyone to adopt simple practices to preserve soil life, which nourishes and protects us.
