Labeled as part of the Bicentennial of Photography, this exhibition invites visitors to rediscover the history of the Cannes Film Festival, from its aborted beginnings in 1939 to 1982. Initially scheduled for September 1, 1939, the event was canceled due to the war. After peace was restored, the festival welcomed numerous international stars, contributing to its legendary status of elegance and high standards, despite scandals and international crises.
Through a rich collection of photographs, posters, and archival documents, the exhibition offers a fresh perspective on a festival often thought to be well-known. It covers the period from 1939 to 1982, providing a deep dive into the history of this iconic event.
The exhibition is accessible free of charge from Monday to Thursday, 9 AM to 5 PM, and is suitable for all audiences.
