The municipality of Menton has resumed reinforcement works for the Sablettes bay's protection, a €4 million project aimed at combating marine submersion risk while preserving biodiversity.

Following a summer break, works to strengthen the coastal protection of Sablettes bay in Menton have resumed. This project aims to preserve the coastline against the risk of marine submersion, while integrating environmental and biodiversity concerns.
This project, with a total budget of €4 million, is funded by the State, the Région Sud Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur, the Département des Alpes-Maritimes, the Communauté de la Riviera française (CARF), and the City of Menton. The works are being carried out in collaboration with the Groupe Renaudi.
The first phase of development, conducted from January to April 2026, included the creation of an underwater dike, dredging of the North cove and beach nourishment, the implementation of marine submersion protection measures, and consideration of biodiversity issues.
The second phase of the construction, which will run until April 2027, includes the creation of a pile pontoon raised by 45 cm to anticipate sea-level rise, improving water and sediment circulation, and the de-artificialization of the Hawaï sector. This latter intervention will compensate for the developments in the bay and strengthen the protection of the departmental road against storm surges, while maintaining the beach and the protective jetty.
