Until December 20, 2026, the municipality of Saint-Martin-de-Crau is participating in the preliminary consultation for the HY-FEN project, which aims to transport renewable and low-carbon hydrogen over 800 km.

Led by NaTran, the HY-FEN project involves the creation of an underground pipeline spanning over 800 km. This pipeline is intended to transport renewable and low-carbon hydrogen between Fos-sur-Mer (Bouches-du-Rhône) and Erching in Moselle, near the German border. Commissioning is anticipated for 2032. The municipality of Saint-Martin-de-Crau is included in the study corridor, a 4 to 6 km wide strip within which the final route will be progressively defined.
This preliminary consultation, open to all and overseen by independent guarantors appointed by the National Commission for Public Debate (CNDP), allows for discussions on the project's merits, its characteristics, safety concerns, and its effects on the environment, agriculture, and the territory. Possible alternatives, including abandoning the project, are also being considered.
A dedicated website provides access to the full dossier, allows for questions to be asked, opinions to be submitted, and the schedule of meetings to be found. Following the consultation, the guarantors will publish a summary report. NaTran will then need to outline the next steps for the project and the contributions received.
