The municipality of Aubagne is launching an ambitious greening program for its 27 schoolyards, aiming to improve children's well-being and combat climate change.

The schoolyard greening program in the municipality of Aubagne aims to enhance children's well-being while combating and adapting to climate change. This initiative is part of the municipality's positive ecology strategy and concerns all 27 schoolyards in Aubagne.
The project also has an educational purpose, raising awareness and educating about climate change issues among schoolchildren. The proposed developments aim to diversify spaces with various materials, playful elements, and a significant emphasis on nature for well-being and cooling.
Benefits include the use of natural materials, extensive planting, and better water management during heatwaves. In total, this program involves 10 schools, covering 7072 m² of schoolyards. It will allow for the de-sealing of 2605 m² of ground surfaces, of which 670 m² will be greened and landscaped with 2831 shrubs and 14 mature trees.
Specific examples of developments include planting shrubs, using vegetal mulch, de-sealing surfaces, creating rest areas with wooden benches, wooden borders and fencing, vegetal canopies, green hedges, and irrigation systems with timers.
