For three days, the cities of Istres and Fos-sur-Mer will host the General States of Speech. This event, organized by the Centre des Arts de la Parole (CAP) in partnership with Scènes et Cinés, invites artists, philosophers, writers, journalists, intellectuals, and citizens to explore the essential question: how can we recreate connection through speech in a world where listening seems to be fading despite the abundance of discourse.
In the face of current social, political, economic, ecological, and artistic tensions, speech, while omnipresent, proves fragile. The CAP, founded by philosopher Gérald Garutti, aims to promote exchange and connection over confrontation. After a first edition in Paris in 2024, the event now takes on a regional dimension by settling in the South.
Personalities such as Cynthia Fleury, Laurent Gaudé, Najat Vallaud-Belkacem, Tania de Montaigne, and Gérald Garutti, among many other guests, will participate in conferences, dialogues, debates, readings, and artistic proposals. These exchanges will revolve around three main themes: the time for questions, the time for narratives, and the time for challenges.
The discussions will address the transformations in public debate, the influence of social media, the responsibility of speech, the construction of shared narratives, and the challenges of mutual understanding between different worlds.
