In response to the serious violence marked by the burning of town halls, vandalism, and looting of shops in several French cities, the City of Saint-Mitre-les-Remparts expresses its firmest condemnation. These acts undermine democratic institutions and the values of the Republic.
Mayor Vincent Goyet and his municipal council, following the call from David Lisnard, president of the Association of Mayors of France (AMF), invite the residents of Saint-Mitre to gather in front of City Hall.
This gathering, scheduled for Monday, October 19, 2026, at 1 PM, will be an opportunity to show solidarity with the affected municipalities, their elected officials, their staff, their residents, and their shopkeepers, as well as support for law enforcement and emergency services.
As a sign of solidarity, flags on municipal buildings will also be flown at half-mast throughout the week. The municipality reaffirms its commitment to the values of Liberty, Equality, and Fraternity, and to respect for republican institutions.
