The laying of the first stone for the Health Student House took place on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, in Brignoles. The event was attended by several dignitaries, including Didier Brémond, Mayor of Brignoles and President of the Agglomération Provence Verte, Damien Flourez, Director of the hospital center, Simon Babre, Prefect of the Var, Marjorie Viort, Regional Councilor representing the Région Sud Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur, Yann Bubien, Director General of the ARS PACA, and Chantal Lassoutanie, Vice-President of the Agglomération Provence Verte.
This project represents a total investment of €4,492,469. The Agglomération Provence Verte contributes 42.5% (€1,909,870.17), while subsidies account for 57.5% of the funding. These subsidies come from the Région Sud (€1,214,004, 27%), the State through DSIL 2026 (€768,011.79, 17.1%) and DSIL 2025 (€200,583.04, 4.5%), the ARS PACA (€250,000, 5.6%), and the Département du Var (€150,000, 3.3%).
The facility, which will be named after Richard Amouroux, the former director of the hospital who passed away prematurely and initiated this project, will be located within the hospital grounds. Mr. Amouroux's mother was present at the ceremony.
The Health Student House, a project led by the Agglomération Provence Verte in partnership with the Intercommunal Hospital Center of Brignoles–Le Luc, is designed to accommodate medical students and health professionals working in the area. Housed in the former 19th-century school, it is seen as an essential tool for hosting interns and a factor in encouraging their long-term settlement in Provence Verte.
The initiative, launched in the summer of 2019 by Richard Lamouroux, then director of the Brignoles hospital, was approved by the intercommunal council in May 2021. A feasibility study was conducted in collaboration with the Var Council for Architecture, Urbanism, and Environment, along with workshops involving representatives of interns and hospital doctors to define housing and common space needs. The project received the first prize for "Idea of the Future" in medical attractiveness in November 2021.
The project involves the renovation of the old school and the construction of an extension. The future house will offer 20 rooms on two levels, communal areas (kitchen, living room, laundry), a terrace, and a vegetable garden. The extension will house 10 studios for on-call doctors, complemented by a parking lot with 66 spaces (21 surface, 45 underground). The project incorporates goals for energy sobriety, solar thermal installations, and plantings adapted to the Mediterranean climate.
The Health Student House will offer free accommodation to medical students on internships at the hospital and with private practitioners, as well as to temporary and on-call health professionals. A contribution towards hotel and consumption costs, estimated between €10 and €20 per day, may be requested from on-call doctors. Management will be entrusted to the hospital center. Construction is expected to be completed by November 2027.
