Have you ever wondered about the purpose of this amphitheater in the heart of Draguignan's Chabran Park? When the weather is nice, it blends into the landscape and is part of your strolls. But during heavy rains, it reveals its true utility: it's a retention basin!
When it rains a lot, water runs off the ground and can quickly accumulate in the streets. The basin then allows for the recovery of some rainwater and its temporary storage to prevent it from flowing all at once. It is then gradually evacuated through the drainage grate visible at the bottom of the basin, allowing water to flow out little by little, even after the peak of the rain.
This system helps to slow down water flow and limit downstream flood risks. It is therefore a dual-purpose facility: a daily landscape space and a stormwater management equipment during bad weather!
