The local hunting society requests full compliance with the ban to allow hares to survive and regain immunity against suspected Spanish myxomatosis.

Interdiction immédiate de la chasse au lièvre à Pierrefeu-du-Var en raison d'une maladie virale

Mairie de Pierrefeu-du-Var

Hare hunting is strictly prohibited in Pierrefeu-du-Var, effective immediately and until further notice, following the suspicion of a serious viral disease.

The hunting society of Pierrefeu-du-Var has issued an important message to all hunters, announcing the immediate ban on hare hunting. This measure aims to protect the species against a possible serious viral disease, suspected to be a form of Spanish myxomatosis.
Hares have been transported to the Var Hunting Federation for analysis, and results are currently awaited. The ban is justified by the need to allow affected animals to recover and immunize themselves naturally, without the exhaustion caused by hunting. Continuing the hunt could lead to the rapid death of weakened hares, while allowing survivors to repopulate the woods, immunized.
The situation is considered serious, with cases already reported in Ramatuelle and spreading to Pierrefeu, notably affecting the entire Maraval valley. The president of the hunting society calls for prudence, responsibility, and counts on the solidarity of all hunters to respect this total ban.
