The global event, aimed at combating wild litter, was led by the City of Toulon and the association Chercheurs en herbe, in partnership with the TPM Metropolis. The operation helped raise participants' awareness of the impact of waste on the environment.
In just a few hours, the volunteers collected a significant amount of debris. Among the collected and valorized waste were 4200 cigarette butts, which will be energetically recovered by Recyclop Var. Additionally, 120 plastic caps will be reused to create jewelry and decorative items by the association Sauvage Méditerranée.
The operation also yielded 92 glass bottles and 80 plastic bottles, directed to dedicated recycling channels. Plastic packaging (one 30-liter bag) and paper waste (one 50-liter bag) were placed in Sittomat selective sorting bins, while 67 cans and 205 metal caps will be recycled by the specialized facility France Récupération Recyclage.
The TPM Metropolis supported this initiative by providing selective sorting containers, and the Saint-Louis du Mourillon port authority offered logistical assistance. The Metropolis reaffirms its commitment to coastal protection and the development of actions for marine biodiversity.
