This Friday, September 25th, the traditional ceremony honoring Harkis and members of auxiliary forces was held at the municipal cemetery of Carpentras. The event was presided over by Bertrand de la Chesnais, Deputy Mayor for Memory.
Mr. de la Chesnais represented Mayor Hervé de Lépinau, who was simultaneously attending a reception for Pope Léon XIV at the Elysée Palace, in his capacity as vice-president of the France-Vatican international study group.
The ceremony began with speeches. Mr. Alain Droval, president of the Military Medalists, read the message from the National Union of Combatants (UNC), while Mr. de la Chesnais read the message from the Minister of the Armed Forces.
These addresses were followed by the traditional wreath-laying, a moment of silence, and the performance of the national anthem. The commemoration concluded with the salute of the authorities to the flag bearers.
The municipality wished to thank all the elected officials, representatives of civil and military authorities, patriotic associations, and the residents of Carpentras who honored this ceremony with their presence.
