The CoVe library network is highlighting Pink October with a selection of documents dedicated to breast cancer, its prevention, the relationship with the body, and women's journeys. This initiative aims to inform, share testimonies, and offer a different perspective on the disease and its consequences.
The selection offers a varied approach, blending sociological and feminist reflections with novels and graphic novels. Works such as Maligne by Noémie Caillault and Dans mon sein by Émilie Daudin directly recount the experience of the illness with humor and sensitivity. Fiction is also featured in La chambre des époux by Éric Reinhardt and Une joie féroce by Sorj Chalandon, exploring couples' struggles and the rediscovery of life in the face of illness.
Graphic novels are also highlighted with Betty Boob, addressing reconstruction after a mastectomy, and Desseins, exploring the place of breasts in women's lives through seven stories. Other books, like Lila et Soutif and Seins : en quête d’une libération by Camille Froidevaux-Metterie, deal with bodily transformations and the gaze upon them.
About ten works are available for loan in the network's libraries. Among them are Les seins de café by Jean-Claude Servais, Desseins by Olivier Pont, Lila. 01 : Pommes, poires, abricots by Séverine de La Croix, and Soutif by Susie Morgenstern.
Pink October serves as a reminder of the importance of early breast cancer screening. From the age of 25, regular monitoring is recommended. Between 50 and 74 years old, a mammogram every 2 years is 100% covered. Early detection significantly increases the chances of recovery.
