From November 2 to 6, 2026, the Alpes-Maritimes Department is organizing the first edition of the "Jeune Regard Citoyen" festival. This new event invites middle school students to reflect, exchange, and debate major societal issues through cinema.
Cinema is chosen for its ability to evoke emotions, provoke thought, and open dialogue. The festival will focus on the essential theme of combating harassment and discrimination. It encourages young people to view others differently, question prejudices, and develop critical thinking, while fostering respect, tolerance, and coexistence.
For one week, several cinemas in the department will offer free screenings for middle school students and their teachers during school hours. The program includes five films that explore difference, self-acceptance, relationships with others, and the challenges of adolescence: Le Règne animal, Wonder, Tomboy, TKT, and Sing Street. Each screening will be followed by a discussion and debate session.
A free closing session, open to families, will take place on Friday, November 6, 2026, at 6:30 PM (doors open at 6 PM) at the Mégarama cinema in Nice. The film Wonder, directed by Stephen Chbosky, will be screened, sensitively addressing themes of difference, bullying, and self-acceptance through the story of August. The screening will be followed by a debate with cinema and education professionals.
This initiative reaffirms the Alpes-Maritimes Department's commitment to youth, using cinema as a space for dialogue, sharing, and raising awareness of civic values.
