This project, carried out in partnership with the State, the Région Sud, the Department of Alpes-Maritimes, and the City of Menton, is entrusted to SMIAGE. It will take place in two sectors: Sablettes beach and Hawaï beach.
In the Sablettes sector, from late October 2026 to April 2027, an existing pontoon will be replaced by a piled structure, and the central part of the beach will be shortened. These modifications will facilitate water and sediment flow between the two coves.
In the Hawaï sector, from late October to mid-December 2026, the beach will be de-artificialized, the three groynes to the west will be demolished and replaced by rock armor at the base of the retaining wall, and the remaining groyne will be reinforced.
Environmental measures will be implemented to limit the impact of the work on the marine environment, including monitoring water turbidity, surveying protected habitats like Posidonia seagrass meadows, and observing cetaceans during noisy operations.
The operation represents an investment of €4.1 million excluding tax, financed by the State (12%), the Région Sud (30%), the Department of Alpes-Maritimes (20%), the French Riviera Community (20%), and the City of Menton (18%).
This initiative is part of a global effort to enhance the territory's resilience to marine submersion risk and preserve the coastline and tourism activity. Work will be interrupted in case of bad weather and during the year-end holiday period.
