Following two weeks dedicated to mental health awareness, the closing ceremony of the Mental Health Information Weeks (SISM) took place on Friday, October 16th, at the Maison de la vie associative in Arles. Organized by the Arles-Crau-Camargue-Montagnette Agglomeration Community (ACCM) in partnership with the Arles Hospital, the event presented a significant performance, part of the national initiative focusing on the arts this year.
On stage, a choir and an "emotions parade" brought poignant testimonials to life, delivered by participants who transformed their experiences into artistic expression. The performance, applauded by the audience and attending elected officials including community councilors Martine Gournes and Ilam Bouaroua, and Arles municipal councilor for health Eric Souque, was noted for its sincerity, resilience, and authenticity.
Throughout the evening, messages emphasized the need to discuss mental health without taboo. Eric Souque highlighted the relevance and importance of the topic for society, pointing to the territory's challenges, such as the declining number of specialist and general practitioners. He stressed the essential role of prevention and early detection, recalling the efforts by the City of Arles and ACCM to attract new medical professionals.
Youth issues were also central to this edition. Martine Gournes underscored the necessity of involving young people in awareness campaigns, given the increasing mental health concerns they face. The program was designed to reach all audiences, with special recognition for the work of Alexandra Coussieu, the agglomeration's mental health mission officer.
The audience's sustained applause confirmed the success of these 2026 Mental Health Information Weeks. By giving voice to emotions, valuing artistic expression, and fostering encounters, this edition once again demonstrated that mental health is everyone's concern and deserves to be approached with kindness, listening, and collective commitment.
