This Tuesday, October 13, SYMADREM triggered alert level 3 on certain downstream Rhône dykes following a flood exercise simulating the flow rate of 1994.

On Tuesday, October 13 at 9 AM, SYMADREM reported that the flow rate of the Rhône at Beaucaire/Tarascon was 7984 m3. Current rainfall in the Cèvennes and on the Durance suggests that the Rhône's flow rate will increase during the day. Consequently, alert level 3 has been activated on certain dykes downstream of the Rhône.
Mobilized since the previous day, SYMADREM requested the implementation of dyke surveillance by municipal teams starting at 9 AM.
This exercise, coinciding with the national resilience day, simulates the January 1994 flood, whose peak flow rate reached 10200 m3/s and caused two breaches in the dykes of the Petit Rhône. It is an exercise organized every two years.
The communes participating in this exercise are: Arles, Beaucaire, Fourques, Port-Saint-Louis-du-Rhône, Saint-Gilles, Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer, and Vauvert.
