The Aix-Marseille-Provence Métropole invites its residents to adopt eco-responsible practices to reduce their waste, particularly green waste. The institution is organizing events, providing advice, and offering free services to facilitate on-site composting and shredding as part of its Metropolitan Waste Prevention Plan.
Each year, over a million tons of waste are collected in the region, with 70% already valorized. The Métropole emphasizes that the best waste is the waste that is not produced.
From October to November, dedicated composting events will be held. Citizens can meet metropolitan eco-ambassadors to get information on garden composting and vermicomposting, which is ideal for apartments.
In parallel, free green waste shredding operations will take place from October to February in several municipalities. Participants can bring their branches and take home mulch for their gardens or as a compost additive. This ecological and economical solution helps reduce green waste volume, fertilize soil, limit water evaporation, and avoid weeding.
Composting can reduce household bin volume by one-third, approximately 150 kg of waste less per household annually. It also helps create 100% natural fertilizer, minimize environmental impact, and return organic matter to nature.
Over 78,000 composters and 9,500 vermicomposters have already been distributed. Equipment can be ordered online at dechets.ampmetropole.fr or via the free Adoptez le Réflexe app. As a new feature, bank transfers are now accepted for purchasing composters and vermicomposters since October 1st.
The dates and locations for events and shredding operations are regularly updated on the waste portal's agenda and the Adoptez le Réflexe app. By composting and valorizing green waste, residents contribute to a more sustainable and environmentally friendly territory.
