As year-end ceremonies approach, France's firefighters will celebrate Saint Barbara, their patron saint, on December 4, 2026, combining homage and esprit de corps.

According to legend, Saint Barbara was a young Christian persecuted for her faith. Her pagan father locked her in a tower, where she secretly had servants baptized. Upon discovering this, her father had her martyred. Barbara then became the patron saint of those who work near fire, such as blacksmiths, artillerymen, and, subsequently, firefighters.
Firefighters turn to her for courage and protection in their increasingly demanding missions. This year, Pompiers13 will uphold this tradition with a ceremony at the Departmental Council of Bouches-du-Rhône, in the presence of authorities and the Departmental Corps, on Friday, December 4, 2026.
This will be an opportunity to pay tribute to all the personnel, men and women, who dedicate themselves daily to serving the public. As usual, each fire and rescue center in the territory will also organize its own ceremony, allowing residents to share moments with the station personnel.
