Since October 17, gauges have been checked daily on the castle courtyard staircase. While three remain stable, a fourth, placed on the retaining wall of the ramp descending towards the linden basin, shows slow but continuous movement.
Out of caution, Mayor Eric Fontanarava has issued a municipal decree prohibiting public access to the castle courtyard staircase (gate secured), the descending ramp along the wall, and the linden basin garden. Fencing marks this restricted zone, and the public is urged to respect it and ensure children do not pass underneath, as the area is considered dangerous.
Access to the Arcades hall will now be via the gate leading down to the Jardin des Plantes Tinctoriales.
The next steps include a diagnosis of the wall by a specialized engineering firm, investigation of potential water infiltration behind the wall, and continued daily monitoring. The area will reopen once safety is guaranteed. The mayor pledges to keep citizens informed of the progress.
