As part of its waste reduction strategy, the Métropole is hosting vegetation shredding events. Residents of Cuges les Pins can bring their branches, up to 10 cm in diameter, to the City Stade, located on chemin Notre Dame. The scheduled dates are Saturdays, October 31 and November 14, 2026, from 9 AM to 1 PM.
This initiative helps to valorize green waste, which can represent a significant amount (around 500 kg per year for an average garden). Hard waste such as branches and hedge trimmings, as well as soft waste like leaves and grass clippings, can be shredded. Shredding is an environmentally friendly alternative to burning green waste.
The resulting mulch, composed of wood chips, can be used as ground cover in gardens. It protects the soil from cold, sun, and heavy rainfall, reduces the need for weeding, nourishes the soil, and promotes biodiversity. It can be applied at the base of hedges, around trees, in shrub or perennial beds, or used in compost bins.
