On Monday, November 2, 2026, the City of Hyères launched the « Mamies et Papys School » initiative. Volunteer seniors will accompany children and their families at pedestrian crossings during school drop-off and pick-up times.

Spearheaded by the Mayor, this program aims to foster proximity, prevention, and intergenerational solidarity. The presence of these volunteers will provide reassurance to families and educate both young and old on safe crossing practices.
Initially, six educational institutions are involved: the preschools Guynemer, Saint-Exupéry, and Françoise-Dolto, as well as the elementary schools Saint-Exupéry, Paul-Long, and Excelsior.
By encouraging senior engagement, the City aims to build daily connections with the younger generation and their parents.
