As part of its policy to preserve natural spaces, the Aix-Marseille-Provence Métropole is initiating work to rehabilitate a new emblematic trail on Montagne Sainte-Victoire. From October 1st to November 27th, 2026, the route connecting the Prieuré to the Croix de Provence will undergo in-depth restoration.
Following the rehabilitation of the Imoucha trail, the Métropole is continuing its action plan on the ridges of Sainte-Victoire, a route welcoming over 200,000 visitors annually. Due to natural wear that has made surfaces polished and slippery, targeted interventions aim to improve the trail's practicability and ensure optimal public reception.
The project includes the consolidation and repair of historic stone walls built in the 2000s. The transport of stones will be carried out by helicopter, highlighting the technical complexity of the operation.
Montagne Sainte-Victoire, registered in the Natura 2000 network and classified as a protected site, hosts a remarkable ecosystem. The construction work has been scheduled for autumn to respect the local fauna's breeding period.
To ensure public safety during operations, a partial and temporary closure of the trail between the Prieuré and the Croix de Provence is planned on weekdays. On weekends, access will remain open from Friday evening to Sunday evening.
